What is the Village Overlay District ordinance amendment?

A zoning ordinance amendment that allows for the Planning Board to authorize flexible standards in a 182 acre overlay district located in the RES-2 zoning district. In this ordinance, the Planning Board is authorized to approve:

• Innovative parking solutions including shared parking, on-street parking and remote parking areas within the Village District as part of a transportation study and plan


• Flexible street standards that are designed to be pedestrian friendly and slow traffic through the village area


• A signage package that allows for traditional village signage at an appropriate scale to visitors and pedestrians; and


• Building heights above thirty-three feet, on a case by case basis, as long as the developer can demonstrate it will:
  
  • Protect the safety and welfare of the public
  • Address the scenic qualities of the area, including viewsheds
  • Will not adversely impact Town services
  • Be consistent with the intent of the Village Overlay District
