Jamie Cunningham, Canopy Tour Director
Jamie is the Bretton Woods Canopy Tour Director, and if "adventurous spirit" can be used to describe him, he brings the term to a new level. As a young man, Jamie began traveling and experiencing the world first hand. Aboard "Stormy Weather" and Merchant ships, his course steered him to places such as The British Virgin Islands, England, and The Lesser Antilles. His vast nautical experience is paralleled on solid ground, where he has experience all over the World as a mountaineer and rock climber.
Jamie has guided and climbed extensively in North Wales and Scotland, and has experienced the heights of El Capitan, the Grand Teton, and Annapurna I. He has credit to over 100 first ascents of various rock climbs, and can be referenced throughout the Adirondack and White Mountain guidebooks. He is also a carpenter, professional photographer, telemark skier, dedicated father and enthusiastic entrepreneur. His knowledge of our area is top notch, and his life experience even greater. Jamie credits his youth experiences for making him the avid outdoorsman that he has become. No matter what brought him to this point, Bretton Woods is thrilled to hand our Canopy Tour over into his capable hands.
Jen Chardon, Canopy Tour Guide
Jen comes to Bretton Woods with adventurous spirit and a joyful sense of wonder for the outdoors. A New Hampshire native, her life adventures have taken her all over the world from backpacking the Jotunheimen Mountains of Norway, to exploring the underground rivers and caves of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Jen has cycled solo through the French and Italian Alps, explored Botswana Africa by safari and done extensive mountaineering across the United States. A master in the Martial Arts, she has learned to balance the physical, mental and spiritual worlds. This appreciation for life allows her sense of discovery to thrive, and her appreciation for the little things - the "pockets of magic" to be noticed.
The past four years have brought Jen back to New Hampshire's Great North Woods, where her love and passion for the North Country is renewed through her work as an outdoor guide. As Jen likes to say as she walks outside, "Step into my office," as it is there that she is truly at home and at ease. We couldn't be more fortunate than to have her guiding with us here at Bretton Woods.
Heather McKendry, Canopy Tour Guide
A diverse career is certainly one of Heather's strengths. With a degree in Outdoor Education, she has 20 years experience as both a camper and counselor at a New Hampshire summer camp, has been a rare book conservator, challenge course builder and facilitator, Nordic ski program director, long time ski patroller and a professional gardener. Needless to say, she brings a wide knowledge base to the Canopy Tour.
Heather is an accomplished cyclist, both road and mountain, and has run in several marathons. Staying active is important to Heather, and her appreciation for and love of the outdoors has only deepened throughout the years. She has spent a semester in Kenya, Africa with N.O.L.S., and has hiked both the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail in Vermont. All this fresh air inspired her to target the outdoors as her place of work, and come join the Canopy Tour Guide team. Calling a place named "Snowville" home, it is perfect that she join us here at Bretton Woods.
Patrick McKerley, Canopy Tour Guide
Patrick came to Bretton Woods long before the rest of the team, primarily as a ski patroller in the winter and a mountain bike patroller in the summer months. It soon became evident that he was a willing and able "Patrick-of-all-trades," and the Canopy Tour quickly recognized this strength and brought him on board as a guide.
Originally from New Hampshire, Patrick studied Outdoor Education in the Midwest. He developed a great appreciation for the area, but fortunately for us, the mountains brought him back to New England. He has backcountry skied, rock climbed and hiked throughout the White Mountains, and has extensive knowledge of the local area. Patrick has traveled to Nepal where he was instrumental in providing first aid training to Nepalese porters, and has also had the fortune of experiencing Africa's grandeur first hand, when he partook in a select grant to travel in Zimbabwe.
It is no accident that Patrick was asked to direct the student patrol program here at the mountain, as he is a natural teacher who seamlessly reaches out to all ages, abilities and walks of life. We know you are in capable hands with Patrick as a guide.
Steve Nichipor, Canopy Tour Guide
Steve's love for the mountains has taken him backcountry skiing, climbing and mountaineering all over the United States, including the White Mountains, Katadhin, Red Rocks, Yosimite, Utah's Wasatch, the Tetons, Colorado's collegiate range and the Cascades. Internationally he has also explored the Canadian Rockies, Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula, Baffin Island, and the Mexican Volcanoes. He has lived in White Mountains throughout his travels, and is proud to call this area home. In New Hampshire, Steve has been a professional guide for a number of years, both independently and through several well-known climbing schools. He has an innate talent for successfully teaching all levels and abilities, highlighting both his skills and good-natured disposition.
Steve built his own house along with several outbuildings, and his latest, greatest and smallest architectural work of art can be seen along the Canopy Tour - our beautiful outhouse. A backcountry skier, avid rock and ice climber, biologist, builder, loving father and husband, culinary artist and wilderness emergency care provider - there isn't much that Steve is not ready and willing to undertake. As a Canopy Tour Guide, Steve is a perfect match.
